Dear Michael:
What you say about late
style's "economy of means" leans toward us. I photograph
the woods not from nostalgia, aging's pejorative
myth, but because, while cities are designed with approved plans, wilderness
teaches intuitive trust. Being human heeds both. As I
sense
that an artist's technique must
embody the spirit of place,
taking a picture this season of my life tolls the
cold snap of death.
