The
road that bends with the mountain's curves, was once a Chumash
trade route between clans.
Maybe their forerunner Milling Stone People followed a deer trail
from Valley of the Moon to Salty
Coast, "sticks with turkey
or eagle feathers carried by (their) leader placed at each camp
along
the way and given (to) men to carry
into the sea and bring back again.
One
large stick, with streamer of red cloth,
(was) planted on the beach."
A
buzzard circles,
my ankles swivel, in
loosely tied shoes.
