we called them, they stuck to the bottom of my pants, as I pedaled long hot stretches
of sun-baked pavement, weeds to either side, cows grazing
the Great Dark Spot in the southern
atmosphere of Neptune, first discovered in 1989 by the Voyager 2 spacecraft. It was an incredibly
large storm system rotating
through a middle-class neighborhood, rolling into the Rio Grande's
Bosque; stopping to dream in the dappled light of its water-starved cottonwood trees.

He had entered a strange world. All day long he searched
for some familiar path. In vain! Trees, rivers, animals, all
were the same as those at home and yet everything was
strange to him.
