Natural science is essentially
dependent upon that type of observation
by which the pure aesthetic experience is stabilized in an attitude
from
which fresh discoveries can be made.
The creek is
dry again. No sound but for footsteps fall on
this rocky hard-packed ground. It's been several months
since I took this path. How many new species have been
born; how many have been disappeared?
The last taboo
is the myth of civilization. It is built upon the stories we
have constructed about our genius, our indestructibility, our manifest
destiny as a chosen species.
To be young among
these tightlipped stones!
What tales must have dried on their obdurate
tongues!
Trees
lean in
to listen;
insects buzz,
drawing blood.
