Recently I learned
that a tooth I lost a few years ago, was
an ornament 30
thousand years ago, valued for its luster.
Each
foot that lifts from
the
earth
has its own memories.
What if you
can't find water to drink, or game to eat?
How will
you know when you've
reached the end
of
our world?
How will we know you,
or you us,
when
we meet again?
Each
foot: "We
should confront the notion that we are dealing more with palimpsests
than with individual slices of time or snapshots
of evidence and pattern." M.W. Conkey, “Thinking
Strings.” In, Seeing the Knowing,
G. Blundell, et.al., eds. Walnut Creek, CA., 2010.
