The trickster is "the eternal tease of natural motion,
and his brother was a standstill stone.”

Where the river recently vanished, age slipped me
off a stone, wearing
shoes too narrow for balance.

That night dreamed I'd fell, and twisted my ankle.
A doctor advised: "The stone needs time to heal.”

When the last Homo sapiens have passed away,
there'll be someone left to say: "Your ancestors
were misled down a river of slippery stones."
